The Uttar Pradesh Committee (UPCC) has refused to pay for the state health department's information in response to an RTI application moved by Rita Bahuguna Joshi on behalf of Rahul Gandhi on April 27.
The state department has informed UP Congress chief Bahuguna that the information she sought regarding the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) runs into several lakh pages and she was expected to pay Rs 2 per page.
"The state wants me to pay Rs 25 lakh for the information from all 71 districts of UP. I have not earned this much in my life and so cannot pay such a huge amount. So I had requested the state government to provided information in the digital form. I will move an application before the state information commissioner ," she said on Sunday.
She alleged that it was a tactic to delay the information. "CM Mayawati knows that she will be exposed if the information is made public," she added. UPCC spokesman said: "The details from each district are available in less than 50 pages. The government can compile everything from 71 districts in 3,550 pages for which we need to pay only Rs 7,100."
